Top 5 Productivity Tips for When You Feel Lazy

Table of Contents

Everyone has those days when you know you have to work, but simply don’t feel like doing so. This is not necessarily a negative thing, as this roots from burnout or anxiety at times. With that, it’s best to listen to your body and give yourself a break when you need to. If you still feel the need to be productive, however, here are the Top 5 Productivity Tips for when you feel lazy and demotivated!

Make a to-do list of things you have to do

A helpful way to jumpstart your system to work is to simply list down all the things you need to do. Even though you’re not in the right headspace to actually do them at the moment, putting them on a piece of paper helps you lay them all out and figure out how to schedule them. This puts your agenda into perspective, allowing you to see the amount of tasks you need to get done, and how flexibly you can distribute them with the time you have.

Give yourself self-care time

Oftentimes, anxiety and depression will be the cause of your laziness. Having symptoms of such probably means you need to give yourself the self-care you need. Do whatever comfort activity will help you rejuvenate and feel alive and fresh again!

It may be good for you to take time out of your day and do whatever activity may be therapeutic to you. This could be meditation or yoga, or even more entertaining things like watching a movie or listening to music.

Clean your space up

You may have been putting off cleaning up your space for a while. If you’re too lazy to do any other task, you can try to tidy up so that you feel more motivated to work. Cleaning is a therapeutic activity that actually offers relaxing mindfulness and endorphins. With this, you are already being the slightest bit productive by getting a little bit of chores done.

Remember, a clean space is a happy place!

Do a little exercise

If you’re the restless kind of lazy, you can probably try grabbing your trusty rubber shoes and getting your cardio on! Physical activity proves to stimulate the release of dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin, which are good chemicals that are crucial in mood regulation. You can do a little at-home conditioning, or even possibly go for a run outside. Getting sunlight also boosts your Vitamin D levels, which positively impacts your mood.

Getting active and sweating it out also helps you release frustration, and in this case, the frustration of demotivation. Since exercising improves both your mood and health, it’s hard to say there are any negative effects from doing this activity.

Just rest

When worse comes to worst and you really aren’t in the right headspace to get out of bed, all you need to do is simply rest. In all honesty, resting is still productive since you are allowing yourself to breathe and recover from mental or physical distress. Even if it’s just for 30 minutes to an hour or two, sometimes laying down and just staring at the ceiling is enough to let yourself calm down and relax.

Listen to your body. You can never let yourself feel guilty about resting, as not everyone needs the same amount of rest as others. If you force yourself to overwork, you’ll just get more tired and anxious.

Remember that everyone has their own ways of coping with laziness. Since most of the time, it roots from stress, make sure to do things that will help you cope and rejuvenate well. Whatever you choose to do is totally valid, as it will lead you to be fully active when you feel better. So what now? Take a rest, drink a tall glass of water, or do one of your favorite comfort activities. You’ll know what hobby will rejuvenate you best!
