About the Role
We are looking for a Full Stack Engineer with strong backend expertise to join our team. As we expand our Talent, HRIS and EOR platform, you will play a critical role in building a secure, scalable serverless architecture on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). While experience with Google Cloud Platform is highly valued, expertise in other serverless technologies is also welcome.
You will collaborate closely with Product Managers, UX/UI designers, and stakeholders to ensure our features deliver clear business value. This role suits someone who thrives in a small-team environment, takes genuine ownership of their work — from design decisions through to release — and values open, effective communication.
We're a small team, so every engineer's output matters. We use AI coding tools and encourage you to — but you are the engineer of record for everything you ship. Whether a line was typed or generated, you own it: you can explain it, debug it, and defend the design behind it. We expect work to arrive at QA release-ready, and we expect you to bring your voice to planning — not just your keyboard.
Your primary focus will be feature delivery, serverless architecture, and front-end integration, with API development also being an important component of your contributions.
Key Responsibilities
- Feature Implementation: Work on developing front-to-back web applications, focusing on delivering one feature at a time for rapid, incremental improvements.
- Code Ownership: Own every line you submit, whether you wrote it or an AI tool generated it. You should be able to walk the team through the design, logic, and behaviour of anything you ship — in code review, in QA handover, and months later when questions come up. "The AI wrote it" is never an answer.
- Serverless Platform Development: Build and maintain features on a serverless architecture using Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or similar technologies.
- Front-End Integration: Collaborate with our UX/UI designer to implement React-based interfaces that align with agreed designs and user needs.
- Scope Discipline: Deliver to the agreed scope of each card. Ideas for improvements are genuinely welcome — raise them in planning or refinement so they can be discussed and agreed before they're built, not discovered in review.
- Quality Assurance: Self-test your work thoroughly before handing it to QA. Features should pass QA in one to two iterations, not arrive as a first draft — rework is the enemy of a small team's velocity.
- CI/CD Pipelines: Manage and optimise CI/CD pipelines, ensuring smooth deployments across three environments (development, staging, production).
- Source Control: Use GitHub for efficient version control and collaboration.
- Sprint Participation: Contribute actively to sprint planning, estimation, and refinement — question requirements, flag risks early, and help the team weigh the value and effort of each feature.
- User Collaboration: Gather feedback from users and stakeholders, refining requirements to iterate on and improve features.
- API Development: Design and build scalable, efficient, and secure APIs to support our multi-tenant architecture.
Required Skills & Experience
- Full Stack Development: 5+ years of experience in full stack development with a strong focus on backend systems.
- Node.js and Typescript Expertise: Advanced skills in building backend systems using Node.js and Typescript, ideally with ExpressJS.
- React Proficiency: Solid experience in front-end development using React, preferably with Material UI.
- Disciplined AI-Assisted Development: You use AI tools as an accelerant, not a substitute for understanding. Generated code gets reviewed, understood, and tested by you before anyone else sees it.
- API Development: Proven ability to design and implement RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Serverless Architecture: Experience with serverless technologies, ideally Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or alternatives like AWS Lambda, Azure Functions, etc.
- CI/CD Pipelines: Proficiency in managing CI/CD workflows to streamline deployments.
- NoSQL Databases: Experience with document-based databases like Firestore, MongoDB, or DynamoDB.
- Testing Discipline: Strong experience in unit testing and feature-level automation, with a track record of self-testing work so it passes QA and code review in minimal iterations.
- Small Team Experience: Ability to work independently and take ownership within small, fast-paced teams — including proactive participation in agile ceremonies.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication — you speak up in planning, surface blockers early, and can clearly explain technical decisions to stakeholders, users, and teammates.
Highly Valued Experience
- Hands-on expertise with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services and tools.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure tools such as Terraform for infrastructure as code.
- Familiarity with object storage (e.g., Google Cloud Storage), task queues/async architecture, and key management/encryption techniques.
- Experience with webhooks, cron jobs, and search engines (e.g., Typesense) to support data-intensive applications.
- Experience designing and implementing scalable multi-tenant architectures.
- Exposure to automated testing and deployment practices in serverless environments.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail in system design, data security, and user experience.
- Ability to simplify complex issues and focus on key outcomes, showing pragmatism and efficiency.
- Disciplined about scope — creative ideas go through the team, not straight into the codebase.
- Collaborative mindset with an active voice — contributes opinions in planning rather than waiting to be assigned.
- Comfort with ambiguity, open to feedback, and adaptable to evolving business needs.
What's in It for You
- Work on cutting-edge serverless technologies with Node.js and React.
- Influence the design and development of our multi-tenant architecture through direct feature contributions.
- Be part of a small, dynamic team where your contributions will have a direct impact.
- Flexible work arrangements to support your lifestyle and productivity.
- A culture of innovation, collaboration, and professional growth.
