About The Role
Contacting Debtors and Negotiation
- Reach out to customers who have defaulted on loans, credit payments, or bills via phone, email, letters, or in-person visits.
- Discuss reasons for non-payment and negotiate repayment plans suitable for the customer’s financial situation.
- Adjust loan terms, restructure accounts, or propose settlements where applicable.
Account Management and Monitoring
- Track overdue accounts and maintain detailed records of all interactions and repayment arrangements.
- Monitor repayment schedules, progress, and escalation if customers remain delinquent.
- Generate reports on collections activity, recovery rates, and account status for management.
Manage NPLs
- Handle high-risk and default accounts.
- Develop specific recovery plans (restructuring, legal action, settlements).
- Work to reduce NPL ratios.
Legal Compliance and Coordination
- Ensure all collection practices comply with local regulations.
- Collaborate with legal teams for debt recovery actions, repossession, or court proceedings if necessary.
- Review accounts for risk and recommend provisions or write offs for irrecoverable debts.
Customer Service and Relationship Management
- Provide empathetic and professional service to maintain positive relationships with borrowers while enforcing repayment obligations.
- Serve as a liaison between clients, internal teams, and external agencies to resolve disputes and address account issues.
Reporting and Analysis
- Prepare management information reports to illustrate portfolio performance, recovery trends, and problem accounts.
- Analyse borrower data to design collection strategies and optimize recovery efficiency.
Knowledge Skills and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Economic, Accounting & Finances, or related field.
- Typically, 8-10+ years in banking with at least 7-8 years’ experience in asset quality management such as collection & recovery.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Understand local regulatory requirements.
- Strong negotiation, persuasion and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under matrix and demanding environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attentive to detail and accuracy.
- Good English both speaking and writing.
- Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel and Power Point.
