About The Role
About Gravis
Gravis Robotics is turning the world's earthmoving machines into intelligent, autonomous robots. Our unique combination of learning-based automation and augmented remote control lets one operator safely conduct a fleet of machines. Our team has over a decade of academic experience honing the cutting edge of large-scale robotics and is rapidly growing to bring that expertise into a multi-billion dollar industry.
What We Build
Operators interact with our platform through Slate: an interface that makes controlling and monitoring a fleet of heavy machines feel fast, spatial, and intuitive. Design at Gravis shapes how people experience that power: how they trust it, learn it, and want to use it every day. You'll be joining the team responsible for this interface: a cross-disciplinary group of game designers, UX/UI designers, C++ developers, and cloud/web engineers building spatial UI that is reliable, fast, and delightful to use. It's an environment where game development thinking meets real-world autonomy, and where design craft has a direct impact on how operators work in the field.
The Role
We're looking for a Design Intern with an exquisite eye and a relentless attention to detail. You'll work across three interconnected fronts: evolving our design system, sharpening our brand identity, and improving the UX of our products. You might work on experimenting with AI design tools to accelerate a component build, polishing the visual language of our brand across touchpoints, or collecting feedback from machine operators in the field. This is an on-site, hands-on role in a fast-moving startup: you'll contribute to real work that ships.
What You'll Do
- Contribute to the Gravis design system: building, documenting, and maintaining components with consistency and precision
- Explore and integrate AI-assisted design tools (e.g. generative UI, design-to-code workflows) to accelerate output quality
- Support brand definition work: visual language, tone, color, typography, and how Gravis presents itself across touchpoints
- Conduct UX audits and propose improvements to the Slate interface and web presence
- Create UI mockups, prototypes, and visual assets for internal and external use
- Document design decisions and contribute to a growing design knowledge base
What We're Looking For
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Visual Communication, or a related field
- A strong portfolio demonstrating visual taste, attention to detail, and design thinking across type, UI, branding
- Proficiency in Figma
- Familiarity with AI-assisted design tools or genuine curiosity to learn them
- Ability to work independently and move quickly without losing quality
- Fluency in English (our working language)
Bonus Points
- Experience with design systems or component libraries
- Exposure to UX research methods
- Interest in robotics, hardware, or industrial technology
What We Offer
This is a chance to do meaningful design work at a startup that's physically reshaping the world: from the roads you drive on to the foundations beneath your next home. Gravis offers a fair market internship compensation and a working location in Zurich. We're a compact, mission-driven team where your work will be visible and your taste will matter from day one.
