Main Activities and Responsibilities
- Undertake structural analysis, design and documentation for underground structures, shafts,
trenchless construction methods, temporary works and related civil infrastructure packages.
- Support investigations, condition assessments and structural appraisals of existing assets
affected by construction activities or rehabilitation requirements.
- Prepare design calculations, reports, specifications and technical inputs in accordance with
project requirements and Australian Standards.
- Coordinate with geotechnical, civil, mechanical, construction and digital teams to develop
practical and buildable design solutions.
- Provide construction-phase support, including responses to technical queries, design reviews and
site-based input where required.
- Contribute to optioneering, design development, technical reviews and multidisciplinary
workshops.
- Manage own work packages to programme and budget, with support from senior staff as
required.
- Apply sound engineering judgement, safety in design principles and quality assurance processes
throughout project delivery.
- Use structural analysis and design software confidently and continue building capability in
advanced modelling, digital engineering and efficient design approaches.
- Support the team through effective collaboration, checking and knowledge sharing.
- Support the delivery of high-quality outputs that build client confidence and strengthen long-term
relationships.
- Assist with preparing technical inputs for proposals, fee estimates, methodology development and
tender submissions.
- Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, constructability and value for clients across
project stages.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Progressing toward Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or equivalent professional
registration (desirable).
Experience, Skills and Organisational Knowledge
- Approximately 5 to 8 years' experience in structural engineering design and project delivery,
ideally within infrastructure, water or underground structures.
- Practical first-principles engineering and constructability knowledge, including the ability to
- develop effective designs and undertake space proofing for brownfield installations within
- complex existing site constraints.
- Experience in reinforced concrete and steel design, structural assessment and preparation of
engineering calculations and reports.
- Working knowledge of Australian Standards, safety in design requirements and quality
management processes.
- Proficiency in relevant structural analysis and design software, with the ability to coordinate
effectively with drafting and BIM/digital delivery teams.
- Strong 2D AutoCAD capability, including preparation of engineering sketches and drawings
(highly desirable).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability work collaboratively with clients,
contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
