Biomedical Engineer

Procurement & Specification

• Supporting the procurement of equipment process (quotations/tenders, comparison chart)
• Writing specifications for all new equipment & machinery
• Evaluating equipment & machinery based on initial and operating cost

Asset & Inventory Management

• Developing and maintaining an asset register of all equipment
• Inventory system and medical equipment documentation
• Maintaining records (e.g., equipment history)

Maintenance & Repairs

• Managing and overseeing replacement and repair programs
• Attending service and maintenance defects and coordinating with vendors
• Conducting preventive maintenance, handling spare parts, technical defects, and clinical demands

Project Coordination

• Arranging proper project milestones (delivery, installation, training, commissioning, testing)

Compliance & Safety

• Initiating policies as per local regulations
• Setting standards & ensuring compliance
• Active involvement in safety committee and checking safety hazards

Training & Support

• Arranging training programs for clinical engineering personnel and end users
• Advising & providing expertise to medical staff & administration
• JCIA-Aligned Safety, Quality, Governance and Professional Standards

• Participate in emergency drills (fire, major incidents, communicable diseases and pandemics) and understand assigned roles during emergencies.

• Complete documentation accurately and on time according to hospital and Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) standards, and maintain confidentiality of patient, staff and organizational information.
• Identify and report environmental hazards or unsafe equipment, follow equipment-safety guidelines and report malfunctions promptly.
• Use hospital information systems safely, protect passwords and confidential data, comply with cybersecurity and data-protection policies, and report suspicious IT-security incidents.
• Respect and protect patient rights, dignity, cultural preferences, privacy and confidentiality, and communicate with patients, colleagues and visitors in a clear and culturally sensitive manner.
• Maintain ethical behavior, professionalism, integrity and respectful interactions with colleagues, patients and visitors.
• Participate in audits, quality-improvement activities and performance reviews to support continuous organizational improvement.
• Follow all relevant hospital policies, procedures and JCIA-related standards applicable to the role.

Education & Qualification, Experience, Training, Knowledge & Skills

• Education & Qualification
• Bachelor’s degree in biomedical Engineer preferred.
• Experience
• Prior UAE experience in biomedical device and equipment management processes
• Has worked within an appropriate service environment within the last 4 years.
• Training, Knowledge & Skills
• Awareness and understanding of KCH policies and KCH initiatives.
• Possesses a good grasp of medical terminology, enabling accurate communication, documentation, and coordination within a clinical or healthcare setting.
• Supports and guides junior team members, offering advice and assistance if required.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality and discretion, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
• Proficient in basic computer applications, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), with the ability to manage digital documentation and communication effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of medical equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct equipment inspections, acceptance testing, and commissioning of newly acquired medical devices.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports, and equipment inventories using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
• Coordinate with clinical departments, vendors, and service providers to ensure timely resolution of equipment-related issues.
• Support medical equipment procurement by participating in technical evaluations, specifications development, and equipment selection.
• Ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements, hospital policies, accreditation standards, and medical device safety regulations.
• Provide technical guidance and user training to clinical and operational staff on the safe use of medical equipment.
• Investigate equipment failures, incidents, and safety concerns, implementing corrective actions where required.
• Monitor equipment performance and contribute to asset management, replacement planning, and lifecycle management initiatives.
• Participate in quality improvement, risk management, and patient safety programs.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering or related Engineering discipline.
• Minimum 2-5 years of experience in biomedical engineering within a hospital or healthcare environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of medical equipment, including critical care, operating theatre, imaging, laboratory, and patient monitoring devices.
• Familiarity with healthcare accreditation standards, medical device regulations, and maintenance best practices.
• Experience with CMMS and hospital information systems is preferred
