About The Role

  • Acts as a safety leader ensuring the ongoing identification of hazards and controls to manage the associated risks with a special focus on Permit to Work and Isolation procedures.
  • Performs daily checks on the condition of areas and equipment (i.e. knuckle boom cranes, mud pumps, draw works, top drive, mud treatment, all drilling related equipment, and systems under assigned responsibility).
  • Informs Mechanical Supervisor (as applicable) and/or maintenance lead of any technical problems or limitations that might affect the safe operation of the vessel.
  • Plans and executes preventive maintenance with a minimum of six-week overview to cover current hitch and half of back ‐ to-back hitch; maintains an updated and accurate historical record of all maintenance done as well as all equipment certification documents.
  • Ensures that maintenance is planned, organized, supervised, and executed in accordance with well programs, company requirements, and contractual obligations.
  • Prioritizes maintenance tasks assigned on safety and environmental critical equipment/systems (SECE’s) as defined in (Valaris Asset Management System) VAMS.
  • For rigs with Performance Standards:
  • Prioritizes maintenance tasks assigned with Assurance Activities required by Performance Standards.
  • Maintains an understanding of the relationship between the rigs safety case, identifies Major Accident Hazards, the bow tie assessment, Performance Standard (PS) documents, and PS Assurance Activity tasks in VAMS.
  • Uses the VAMS system to identify equipment identified as Barriers.
  • Maintains workshop equipment and tools to the highest safety standards.
  • Maintains a minimum number of spares onboard for critical/safety/maintenance/operational systems.
  • Supports members of the crew in the operation and maintenance practices of equipment.
  • Clearly and accurately communicates work status at the end of shift and end of hitch handovers.

Qualifications / Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum two (2) years of offshore experience in the position of Mechanic.
  • Experienced and trained on hydraulic systems troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Completion of all mandatory training and certification requirements for Mechanic as described in the training matrix.
