About The Role

Support the Senior Commissioning Manager in leading safe and effective commissioning activities for Masdar’s BESS projects. Provide technical leadership, governance, and decision-making across commissioning to ensure compliant, safe, and economic operation of plants.
Responsibilities
Request for Proposal (RfP) & Design Interface
- Assist in the preparation and defining the technical requirements for RfP/tender documents for both Electrical/Balance of Plant (BoP), BESS Technology Provider and Main SCADA contractor.
- Review and provide feedback of tenders.
- Review and identify boundaries of scopes and potential interface challenges between BoP, BESS, Main SCADA and all other ancillary system providers
Construction Phase Support
- Review and comment on contractor technical design submissions.
- Provide technical support for the Project Managers for design queries.
- Provide input into HAZOPS and other safety reviews as directed.
- Participate in technical meetings and handle discussions with contractors.
- Review and ensure governance of electrical aspects of the contractor(s) Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) and Commissioning Plan.
- Attend sites when needed to monitor installation providing feedback to Masdar Project Manager.
- Attend manufacturers factory acceptance tests (FAT’s) when required.
- Review and comment on contractor proposed Operational Test Procedures associated with the Commissioning of electrical systems
Commissioning & Handover
- Attend site to monitor compliance in electrical, BESS & SCADA commissioning of plant and apparatus, ensuring compliance with ITP.
- Attend and client certify Site Acceptance Test(s) (SAT’s)
- Ensure BoP, BESS Technology Provider, Main SCADA & other ancillary systems plant and equipment have been commissioned in accordance with grid requirements.
- Review and provide feedback on contractor commissioning documentation, including procedures, test results, and completion records, to ensure compliance with project and grid requirements.
- Participate in the hand over acceptance of Plant, Apparatus and sub-system/s to our operational staff.
- Ensure commissioning activities are within budget and to schedule.
 
Preferred Qualifications
- BTEC HNC/HND in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or any other related field
Preferred Experience
- 4-6 years of engineering experience within the Renewable Energy sector.
- Demonstrable experience with safe systems of work, permit-to-work processes, and LOTO procedures Previous role as a commissioning engineer or commissioning manager on HV/LV electrical projects.
- Strong background in 11kV, 33kV or EHV commissioning of switchgear, transformers, protection, control, metering equipment and SCADA systems (132kV+ experience advantageous).
- Experience in fault evaluation and oversight of communication and OT networking protocols and devices.
- Installation, modification and fault finding on control signals or networked control protocols.
- Engagement with DNO’s, IDNO’s & NGET.
- Strong track record of leading technical site discussions, providing assurance through experience and sound technical knowledge.
Job Specific Skills
- Working knowledge of EREC G99 electrical protection requirements, BESS capability requirements and compliance testing.
- Knowledge of THE GRID CODE.
- Knowledge of Conventional Generation, Renewables and Energy Storage.
- Strong knowledge of electrical or electronic engineering principles.
- Ability to review electrical and electronic drawings, commissioning documentation, and contractor test reports.
- Ability to review and compare electrically biased technical documents from suppliers, contractors, industry standards and electricity network operators. 
- Knowledge of LV & HV commissioning routines and required outcomes for primary electrical plant, protection and metering.
- Extensive knowledge of electrical MV, LV distribution systems, variety of switchgear types including protection relays, control systems and SCADA.
- Ability to support workload planning for engineering, construction, commissioning phases.
- Ability to train and guide less experienced engineers.
