Summary of Job Duties

The Surgical Technologist Education and Practice Coordinator (STEPC) role is an integral team member that provides essential leadership and oversight of surgical technologist practice in the operating rooms. This leader promotes recruitment and retention of STs by ensuring effective onboarding, competency validation and ongoing enhancement of clinical skills. The STEPC is actively involved in quality/performance improvement including data collection (audits, surveys), analysis, actions and evaluation. Coordination of activities to ensure regulatory compliance standards is a priority and expectation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years of Surgical technologist experience in comparable setting
  • Achievement of CST certification within 1 year of hire
  • Superior organizational skills
  • Proficient communication, leadership and interpersonal skills
  • ability to provide instructions one-on-oneand in groups
  • Skills in MS Office and database software

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 years of surgical technologist experience
  • Experience in Level 1 Trauma hospital
  • CST or CSFA certification
  • AST member
  • Leadership experience

Additional Information

Responsibilities

  • Assist in assessing educational needs and identifying gaps in knowledge, skill or practice of identified learners.
  • Assists leaders with training inexperienced staff members and providing clarification on matters of organizational policies and processes.
  • Provides re-fresher courses; stays abreast of changes in accreditation and service standards and ensures current training programs are providing the proper education.
  • Maintains training manuals and documentation of new processes.
  • Follows through with all compliance, quality assurance, and budgetary guidelines set forth for educational program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
