Responsibilities

The Application Administrator I builds, maintains, monitors and audits multiple cloud application installations. This may include, but is not limited to, ensuring security standards are applied, troubleshooting, implementing new solutions and participating on projects to upgrade components or whole systems. Follows recommended architecture standards related to applications.

The Application Administrator I within the Office of Clinical Research (OCR) is one of the primary contacts for all OCR managed system-related activities. The Application Administrator I is responsible for working with diverse levels of staff to maintain and improve the functionality and use of the OCR managed cloud systems, and assure the business strategy is driving system use and requirements. This role, working with OCR team members, will serve as a “communications hub” to facilitate dissemination of information to the OCR managed system users, clinical trial team members, central services teams, and senior leadership. This role will be collaborating with other departments across the institution as well as OCR team members, reporting to the Sr. Application Administrator and the Director of the Office of Clinical Research. Within the Role the Application Administrator I will be responsible for creating new user accounts in the various OCR managed systems, field issues and requests that come in from the OCR’s user base, create robust data reporting using a Sigma-based cloud application interface, update/upgrade the various systems, provide Quality Assurance updates to the user base, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides technical support for Advarra Cloud non-production and production environments, including troubleshooting and remediation of technical issues, data manipulation and reporting, etc. Researches and answers technical application, database, server and security configuration questions. Works with various technical and functional personnel as needed to fulfill requests for technical support, including application, system to system integrations and security administration. Monitors non-production and production environments and works in conjunction with team members alongside vendor technical support to provide performance tuning on application, database, server and security settings and features.
  • Plans, tests and delivers application upgrades for Advarra Cloud nonproduction and production environments. Appropriately use tools to efficiently manage data migrations, environment builds, testing and implementation.
  • Applies patches and delivers minor and major application upgrades. Performs new feature testing and validates changed functionality prior to release to the OCR user base, coordinating upgrade scheduling and communication with vendor technical support.
  • Participates in regular team meetings and brainstorming discussions. Identifies and recommends improvement opportunities, keeps up with the team built ticket system, and completes work in a timely fashion. Shares application administration knowledge and provides cross-training and peer support. The Office of Clinical Research is built on the cooperation between its different specialty teams. The application admin will work closely with all of them to provide support and work towards shared goals. Participates in estimation and planning of future application administration work plans. Updates application administration documentation and procedures used to maintain the Advarra cloud products as well as other cloud based and on premises systems used for related tasks.
  • Participates in application administration maintenance or implementation planning. Updates technical documentation to be used by application administration or support teams, with direction from senior or lead application administrator(s). Participates in testing newly developed applications, integrations, systems, solutions, and upgrades of applications or application support tools. Follows best practice application administration and change management procedures. Participates in systems projects or enhancements, delivering upon assigned application administration tasks in alignment with project plans and estimates.
  • Adapts to new technologies and systems, developing a broad knowledge in assigned application areas. Develops a broad knowledge of the latest technologies associated with cloud application administrations. Participates in external technical application administration communities of practice with a goal of gaining technical knowledge through vendor channels.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma and 1 year of related experience required
  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, Business, Data Science or Engineering preferred
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in higher education or healthcare field preferred
  • Experience with interface, networking, design, and relational database technologies preferred
  • Experience supporting Cloud and on premises applications preferred
  • Experience with multi-tier applications employing application and web servers preferred
  • Experience with project management from planning through implementation preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotations required
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and help team members embrace technology change preferred
  • Proven track record executing multiple work streams and producing consistent results preferred
  • Strong understanding of system/application administration activities preferred
  • Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL or related database experience preferred
  • Solid understanding of Web Server, App Server and Database interactivities preferred
  • Solid understanding of application infrastructure and architecture preferred
