About The Role

To create standard products with reference of using customer specifications to design Powell standard products.

  • Design and consult on complex jobs.
  • Read and interpret customer job specifications.
  • Order materials.
  • Create drawings.
  • Transmit drawings to shop and customer.
  • Interface with sales, customer and shop.
  • Complete task are checked by more senior engineers.
  • Create proposal drawings.
  • Responsible for checking the jobs of lower level engineers before jobs are sent out for customer approval.
  • Work leader responsibilities may include: task assignment, performance feedback, on-the-job training, directing lower level engineering personnel to appropriate sources of information, products, vendors, etc.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in an Engineering role.
  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Technology.
  • EIT and PE preferred.
  • Basic computer skills using Oracle, Word, Excel.
  • Ability to order material electronically.
  • Advanced drafting/CAD skills.
  • Proficient with electrical design and circuitry.
  • Able to read and interpret electrical symbols, characters, and drawings.
  • Able to apply (told by others what it means and which code) NEC, ANSI, and Other as it applies to the day to day activity.
  • Knowledge of ISO requirements for a specific department and its interface with other departments.
  • Basic to thorough understanding of power system application, relay application and coordination, and short circuit studies.
  • Current knowledge of all industry codes and standards associated with his/her department and familiar with all other codes and standards.
  • Basic understanding to very proficient at job reviews (i.e., acquired knowledge of specs that Powell should take exception to and specs that require special attention; able to accurately interpret customer specs, etc.).
  • Assist in writing of industry codes and standards.
  • Check wiring diagrams completed by others.
  • Available to analyze and answer technical questions from lower level engineers.
  • Able to understand, interpret and trouble shoot most customers needs and problems.
  • Provide technical assistance to sales, engineering and inspection on daily problems.
  • Assist with and solve problems of other production engineers on a daily basis.
  • Check completed jobs of other engineers.
  • Able to apply through product knowledge and technical skills to quickly solve complex application problems independently. May require consultation on most difficult.
  • Innovative to improve existing products.
  • Able to design one product in the most economical way while achieving quality.
  • Member of IEEE.
  • Assist in the publishing of articles and attend seminars.
  • Attend in house and outside training sessions.
  • Attend local professional associations.
  • Learn policies and procedures, work instruction, ISO policies, Safety Rules and Regulations, and vendor products.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
