Job Summary
About the Role
We are looking for a Trade Compliance & Customs Specialist to support global import and export operations. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable trade and customs regulations, coordinating customs permit applications, maintaining product classifications, and managing cross-border shipments with freight forwarders and customs brokers. The role plays a key part in enabling compliant and efficient global trade operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage import and export operations for cross-border shipments.
- Interpret applicable trade, customs, and regulatory requirements, and provide guidance to internal stakeholders on import and export requirements.
- Review shipments to determine regulatory, licensing, permit and documentation requirements prior to import or export.
- Support export compliance activities under the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR), including export control and licensing requirements, where applicable.
- Prepare, validate, and coordinate customs permit applications and supporting documentation with customs brokers, and resolve customs-related issues.
- Classify products and technologies using HS codes and ECCNs, and maintain accurate product classification, Country of Origin (COO), and other product regulatory records.
- Prepare and validate shipping documents, including commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and other customs supporting documents.
- Coordinate inbound, outbound, and RMA shipments with freight forwarders and courier providers, including shipment bookings, pickups, deliveries, and customs clearance.
- Support customs and trade compliance programs and initiatives, including Major Exporter Scheme (MES), Strategic Trade Scheme (STS) / Bulk Permit, TradeFIRST, customs audits, and continuous process improvements.
- Partner with internal teams, and external stakeholders to resolve customs, trade compliance, and logistics issues.
- Act as a key point of contact for government inquiries related to trade
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Trade, Business, or a related discipline.
- 3-6 years of experience in Singapore Customs regulations, TradeNet permit processes, trade compliance, or import/export operations.
- Experience with HS classification and ECCN determination.
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail, and ability to solve complex compliance issues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong communication skills with internal teams, suppliers and logistics providers across APAC.
- Handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Nice to Have
- Customs Broker License or certifications such as CES / CCS
- Experience in high-tech, networking, manufacturing, or data center industries
- Working knowledge of U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and ECCN classification and Singapore strategic goods controls.
- Experience with MES, Bulk Permit, TradeFIRST, or other Singapore Customs trade schemes.
