We Require

  • Three years of experience operating trucks and equipment
  • High school diploma or GED
  • A valid Arizona Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a tanker endorsement
  • State and federal regulations require Maricopa County to conduct a pre-employment safety history investigation for all positions that require an applicant to possess a commercial driver’s license (CDL). Maricopa County is also required to conduct a pre-employment safety history investigation for positions that directly impact commercial motor vehicle safety, but may not specifically require a valid CDL

  • Experience transporting equipment along with operating/driving the following: motor grader, backhoe, frontend loader, distributor trucks, and various types of small equipment.

Job Contributions

  • Operate a variety of medium to large-sized construction and maintenance equipment/vehicles in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures
  • Plan and prioritize work tasks; read and interpret plans, drawings, and specifications
  • Perform pre- and post-checks, clean, service, and minor maintenance repairs on equipment/vehicles. Identify and report mechanical problems requiring additional repair
  • Complete required daily logs and prepare reports; enter information in the asset management system (Cartegraph). Attend safety meetings, other required meetings, and mandatory training
  • Perform heavy manual labor assignments as needed and assist with work for crews as required
  • Haul materials and transport vehicles and equipment to job sites using various trucks and transporters
  • Other job duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  • Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly
  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration
  • Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel

CDL Selection Procedure

  • Only the most qualified candidates will be considered
