About the Role

The Essity Manufacturing Professional Hygiene North America business is currently searching for an Occupational Health Nurse; this position will be based out of our manufacturing facility in Barton, AL.

The Occupational Health Nurse will be responsible for in-plant medical services, including treatment of illness or injury and definitive care. This person will support the industrial nursing, emergency medicine, first aid, workers compensation administration, and other occupational health needs for a Paper Manufacturing and Converting facility.

What You Will Do

  • Render necessary in-plant treatment of industrial and non-industrial injuries and illnesses incurred by Company employees;
  • Determine the extent of medical needs and make all necessary referrals to emergency, outpatient or physician services;
  • Assist the Safety Manager, Production Manager, department superintendents, and supervisors in the administration of the plant safety program;
  • Coordinates the facility wellness program with other site facilities;
  • Prepare and maintains all reports and records for worker's compensation cases;
  • Communicate with various insurance carriers, attorneys, physicians, etc. to manage the cases as cost-effectively as possible;
  • Assist in the investigation of injuries and make recommendations for the prevention of similar incidents;
  • Consult with physicians regarding follow-up medical treatment for injured employees and assist the employee in making necessary arrangements for future treatment;
  • Counsel employees on matters of physical and emotional health and make necessary referrals to personal physicians and the Employee Assistance Program;
  • Administer and coordinate various facility programs including but not limited to; yearly blood drives, CPR training, annual flu shot, sickness and accident insurance program, hearing conservation management, health screenings, etc.;
  • Perform other essential responsibilities as deemed necessary.

Who You Are

  • Registered Nurse in the State of Alabama;
  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) preferred;
  • Minimum of Three (3) years’ experience in industrial nursing and/or emergency care covering the following: Industrial medical techniques Emergency medicine, State regulations regarding Worker's Compensation, OSHA regulations and record keeping requirements, DOT regulations, Audiometric Testing; Respirator Fit Testing, Certified BAT technician, knowledge of ADA, FMLA and other state and federal regulations;
  • Excellent Communication Skills (Written & Verbal);
  • Posses strong attention to detail and administration ability;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications including MS Access and Excel.
