Work Schedule

  • Full time, 40 hours weekly
  • Day shift
  • Monday - Friday schedule

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED or GED is required.
  • Experience:
  • 1 - 2 years' experience in similar role is required.
  • Familiar with basic sterile technique and direct patient care is required

Job Overview

The Perioperative Assistant supports safe, efficient perioperative care by assisting anesthesia and nursing teams with patient transport, room preparation, turnover, and environmental support. This role contributes directly to patient flow, safety, and operational efficiency across operating rooms, procedural areas, and perioperative units, transport of patients along with cleaning, turning over, and stocking rooms.

Job Responsibilities

  • Transports patients via hospital stretchers/beds/wheelchairs in a safe and timely manner.
  • Responsible for maintaining PAR levels in supply areas. Recognizes and reports problems appropriately. Performs stocking/cleaning requirements as needed or may notify supervisor. Monitor case carts and report missing supplies.
  • Report and follow through on equipment malfunctions.
  • Maintains a safe environment, complies with infection control policies, reports safety hazards, demonstrates knowledge of patient safety and emergency policies and procedures.
  • Assists housekeeping with preparation of patient rooms. Performs supply, equipment, environmental related tasks, and quality checks as required.
  • Communicates effectively: assists with patient flow activities, performs clerical tasks as assigned, reports patient related information and tasks completed to the RN.
  • Assists with positioning and prepping of patient for procedure and discharge under the direction of the RN.
  • Responsibilities include assisting with dressing/undressing patient, lifting/turning patient, clipping patient prior to surgery, obtaining vital signs and EKGs prior to surgery, documenting on electronic medical record, performing blood glucose accuchecks, assisting with taking patients out to their vehicle for discharge, taking patient to/from toilet, and other tasks as delegated by RN.

Key Responsibilities Patient & Clinical Support • Safely transport patients via stretcher, bed, or wheelchair in accordance with patient condition and safety protocols. • Assist with patient positioning, preparation, and basic care activities under the direction of licensed staff. • Support patient admission, discharge, and flow activities, including assistance with mobility, vital signs, EKGs, glucose checks, and documentation as delegated. Room & Environmental Support • Assist with operating room and procedural area setup and turnover, including cleaning, restocking, and equipment preparation. • Remove, clean, and return equipment following procedures, ensuring readiness for subsequent cases. • Assist with specimen transport to the laboratory per policy. Supplies, Equipment & Safety • Maintain supply par levels, restock areas, and report missing or malfunctioning equipment. • Assist with environmental safety checks, infection prevention practices, and hazard reporting. • Support housekeeping efforts to ensure clean, safe patient care areas. Communication & Teamwork • Communicate effectively with nursing, anesthesia, and perioperative leadership regarding patient flow and task completion. • Perform clerical or support tasks as assigned to enhance workflow efficiency. • Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and adherence to organizational values.
