About The Role

We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Senior Vice President, Client Asset Safety Compliance to join our Compliance team. This role is in London, UK.

This is a senior specialist role within the newly established Client Asset Safety Compliance Centre of Excellence, providing 2nd line Compliance oversight, advisory support and challenge across BNY businesses, platforms and legal entities that hold client assets and/or client money. The role is designed for an experienced subject matter expert who can operate across jurisdictions, support strategic change and help drive a consistent, sustainable approach to client asset safety oversight globally.

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways

  • Serve as a senior subject matter expert within the Client Asset Safety Compliance Centre of Excellence, providing independent 2nd line Compliance oversight, challenge and advisory support across relevant businesses, platforms and legal entities.
  • Interpret complex client asset safety regulatory requirements and translate them into practical, risk-based guidance for business, operations and control stakeholders.
  • Partner with 1st line teams, Global Asset Safety, Business Compliance Officers, Risk, Legal and other control partners to support a coordinated and consistent global oversight model.
  • Provide proactive Compliance input on business-as-usual activity, regulatory developments, new business initiatives, transformation programmes and material change impacting client asset safety.
  • Assess existing and emerging regulation, supervisory communications, industry developments and consultation papers to identify implications for BNY’s client asset safety framework and operating model.
  • Contribute to the design and enhancement of governance standards, oversight frameworks, policies, guidance and management information that strengthen client asset protection across jurisdictions.
  • Review and challenge the adequacy of controls relating to client asset safety, including segregation, books and records, reconciliations, governance, record integrity and related operational arrangements.
  • Support the identification, assessment and management of compliance risk through thematic reviews, risk assessments, control gap analysis and oversight of remediation activity.
  • Provide 2nd line Compliance leadership and challenge in issue, breach and violation management, including root cause analysis, materiality assessment, remediation planning and regulatory notification considerations where appropriate.
  • Contribute to oversight of regulatory reporting processes with a direct linkage to client asset safety requirements and associated governance expectations.
  • Prepare and review governance materials, escalation papers, thematic analysis and trend reporting for senior management, legal entity governance and other relevant forums.
  • Support the business and control functions on external audit activity, regulatory reviews and internal reviews where specialist client asset safety expertise is required.
  • Work with Compliance Testing and other assurance functions to guide review focus in areas of heightened or emerging risk and support interpretation of issues identified.
  • Represent Compliance in internal and external forums, including industry working groups and regulatory or market practice discussions relevant to client asset safety.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on strategic initiatives affecting client asset safety, including regulatory change, digital asset developments, custody model evolution, books and records transformation and other business change.
  • Provide guidance and subject matter support to colleagues and junior team members as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the achievement of wider team objectives and adapt responsibilities, where required, to reflect local regulatory requirements and business needs.

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following

  • Experience in Compliance, Regulatory Advisory, Legal Entity Compliance, Operational Risk, Audit or a related control function within financial services.
  • Deep subject matter expertise in client asset safety, client money, custody asset protection, segregation, books and records, reconciliations and related regulatory control frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant client asset protection requirements, ideally including in depth experience with UK CASS (CASS 7 ideally) and familiarity with comparable global regimes.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex regulation and apply it effectively in a large, global and matrixed financial institution.
  • Experience supporting regulatory change, governance enhancement, control improvement, issue management, remediation and business transformation initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, risk assessment and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide constructive challenge and practical, risk-based solutions.
  • Proven ability to build credibility and influence with stakeholders across business, operations and control functions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing governance materials, management information and regulatory-facing content.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities across businesses, platforms and jurisdictions.
  • Experience supporting regulatory interactions, external audits and/or thematic reviews preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Business, Finance, Law or related degree preferred.
