Production and Operational Excellence Manager
We're seeking an experienced Production and Operational Excellence Manager to lead winery operations and drive continuous improvement across our Matua Winery. This is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring safe, efficient and compliant winery execution while embedding operational excellence principles, data-led decision making and sustainable performance improvements.

About the Role
As a key member of the Matua Winery leadership team, this role owns production execution performance across the winery. You will lead the systems, people and continuous improvement initiatives that convert production plans into safe, efficient and repeatable operational outcomes while improving throughput, labour productivity and cost performance.
Reporting to the Site Operations Manager - Matua , you will provide leadership across winery operations, vintage readiness, production execution planning, safety, quality, compliance and continuous improvement culture.
Working closely with Winemaking, Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, Supply Chain and Site Leadership teams, you'll play a key role in optimising operational performance, developing team capability and driving a culture of operational excellence across the winery.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead safe, efficient and compliant winery operations, ensuring production, vintage and quality targets are achieved.
- Drive Operational Excellence across the site through Lean practices, structured problem solving, continuous improvement and data-led decision making.
- Lead and develop a large operational workforce including team leaders, permanent employees and seasonal vintage personnel, building capability, engagement and operational excellence.
- Identify operational constraints and bottlenecks, leading initiatives that improve production flow, throughput and execution reliability.
- Champion safety, food safety, quality and environmental compliance, ensuring audit readiness and adherence to all regulatory and company standards.
- Partner with Winemaking, Engineering, Maintenance and Supply Chain teams to optimise asset utilisation, operational performance, development opportunities and production reliability.
- Lead site improvement projects focused on productivity, cost reduction, waste minimisation, sustainability and long-term operational performance.
About You
You are an experienced operations leader who combines strong production management capability with a passion for continuous improvement, people leadership and operational excellence.
You'll bring
- Experience leading operations within a winery, FMCG, food and beverage, manufacturing or supply chain environment.
- Proven experience improving throughput, labour productivity, team development and operational performance in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong Operational Excellence, Lean, Six Sigma, TPM or continuous improvement experience.
- Demonstrated success delivering improvement projects and sustainable business outcomes.
- Strong understanding of production flow management, operational planning and execution disciplines.
- Experience leading large seasonal or variable workforce models.
- Strong understanding of safety, quality, food safety and environmental compliance requirements.
- Commercial acumen with experience managing labour, operational and project budgets.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability with a data-driven approach.
- The ability to effectively collaborate across multiple functions and drive positive change.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Oenology, Viticulture, Business or a related discipline.
- Lean, Six Sigma, TPM, Operational Excellence or Project Management certifications highly regarded.
- Leadership qualifications or equivalent leadership experience.
