The Pharmacy Technician – Ambulatory supports a high-volume outpatient pharmacy at Main Campus, processing approximately 1,100 prescriptions per day. Caregivers in this role prepare prescription orders, maintain inventory, operate the point-of-sale system and support complex non-sterile compounding in accordance with USP guidelines. Responsibilities also include bulk and extemporaneous compounding, monitoring inventory and reorder points, restocking products and removing expired medications. Caregivers may also provide support across multiple pharmacy locations based on departmental needs.

A caregiver in this position will work full-time, Monday through Friday, rotating 8-hour shifts between the hours of 6:30 am and 6:30 pm. Caregivers also participate in a rotating weekend schedule approximately every 8th–9th weekend and a holiday rotation approximately once every three years.

A caregiver who excels in this role will

• Provide distributive pharmacy services, assistance and support for the pharmacist in an ambulatory/outpatient setting.
• Prepare prescription orders for dispensing to patients.
• Maintain inventory for the outpatient pharmacy.
• Assist with extemporaneous compounding of prescriptions and bulk compounding of prescriptions and over the counter items.
• Operate the point-of-sale cash register system.
• Monitor and act on reorder points, restock prescription and non-prescription area and remove expiring products.
• Provide multi-pharmacy support in assigned areas as needed.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include

• High School Diploma/GED
• Upon hire, you must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA).
• In addition to the above requirement, upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee
• Please note: Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include

• Six months of hospital experience
• Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program
• Prior compounding experience

Physical Requirements

• Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, reaching, stretching, stooping, and sitting for prolonged times; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing functions of the job; ability to lift up to 20 lbs. while walking, stooping, bending and reaching.

Personal Protective Equipment

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
