Job Summary

PLNU is seeking a skilled and service-oriented Plumber to support campus facilities through maintenance, repair, and construction projects. This role plays a critical part in ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable plumbing systems across the university while delivering excellent service to the campus community in a supportive, mission-driven environment.

Salary

  • Pay range $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
  • Actual salary offered is determined by the candidate’s experience, education, skills, and other factors, including internal equity and university funding resources.

Job Description

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong hands-on experience performing a wide range of plumbing repairs and installations in commercial or institutional environments.
  • Ability to diagnose complex plumbing issues and develop effective, timely solutions.
  • Knowledge of plumbing codes, systems, tools, and materials in both maintenance and construction settings.
  • Ability to manage multiple work orders and shifting priorities effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate with other trades and support cross-functional project work.
  • Customer-service mindset focused on responsiveness, professionalism, and community support.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high quality standards.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Perform all phases of plumbing work including installation, maintenance, and repair across campus facilities (including commercial boilers, backflow preventers, lab piping, and student housing).
  • Diagnosing plumbing issues and implementing effective solutions in both routine and urgent situations.
  • Provide accurate labor and material estimates for assigned work orders and projects.
  • Procure necessary parts through approved vendors and catalogs, tracking labor hours and materials used to ensure accurate cost management.
  • Collaborate with other trades to support broader facility, construction, and renovation projects.
  • Respond to emergency repair requests as needed (overtime/call-out pay applies).
  • Maintain a safe work environment and strictly follow all safety protocols when using tools and equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support Facilities operations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum four years of experience in commercial plumbing.
  • Mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of local plumbing codes; Journeyman license, C-36, or Backflow Prevention certification highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with the operation, repair, and maintenance of institutional plumbing fixtures and equipment.
  • Ability to analyze project needs, procure parts, and complete tasks on time with minimal direction.
  • Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to operate university fleet vehicles.
  • Service orientation committed to providing exceptional customer service to the entire PLNU community.
  • A positive, team-player approach to work in an environment with frequently changing priorities.
  • Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, staff agree to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant .

Physical Requirements

  • Vision to read documents, technical manuals, and work orders on paper or computer/mobile screens.
  • Hearing and speaking abilities to communicate effectively in person, by phone, or via two-way radio.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work including bending, crawling, stretching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments under varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work from heights, reach overhead, kneel, and crouch.
