WSP Planning & Consents is one of the UK's leading planning, environmental and development focussed businesses, supporting the delivery of major infrastructure, development, energy, transport, regeneration and government projects across the UK and internationally.
The team is over 1,400 strong and brings together expertise in land assembly, town planning, environmental assessment, transport planning, engineering and stakeholder engagement to help clients secure major development programme consents and deliver projects onto site.
You will be responsible for driving the revenue growth in the Water sector for the Planning and Consents Business Unit working with key clients, WSP’s Strategic Growth Directors and Heads of Disciplines to identify and convert strategically important opportunities into sustainable and repeatable revenue. This will be achieved by:
- Driving sustainable revenue growth and increased market share in line with the infrastructure sector targets set out with the WSP Growth Strategy, and
- Providing strategic market and infrastructure sector insights that will be used to influence critical decisions on work winning, business unit investments and strategy.

Strategic Alignment
- Provide visible and credible senior leadership across the Sector.
- Use knowledge of market/sector trends, competitors and client needs to establish Strategic growth priorities with a two year look ahead.
- Overseeing behaviours and processes to build a climate of continual improvement and excellent customer management.
Work Winning and Sustainable Revenue Growth
- Working with key personnel across the Planning & Development, Land and Infrastructure Planning & Environmental Assessment teams to hone existing and/or develop new service offerings to meet current and future market demand.
- Driving key account growth across the Business Unit by maximising cross-selling
- Taking or guiding decisions around which strategic opportunities to pursue in line with the Growth Plan.
- Shaping value propositions for key/must-win bids under and go-to-market messaging.
Strategy Alignment
- Act as a Key Account Exec Sponsor or Manager for important regional accounts. Act as a senior point of contact for clients, building long term trusted relationships. Work across key accounts to facilitate C-suite relationships with key clients.
- Support and lead client engagement across the sector, including early stage discussions, strategic advisory roles, framework relationships and project delivery and act as the facilitator for the wider WSP team.
- Champion local delivery, local capability and community engagement, ensuring projects are supported by appropriately located teams and partners where possible.
- Represent the business in relevant industry forums, working groups and events, positioning the organisation as a committed, long term partner in this sector.
- Provide senior project leadership and direction across the portfolio. Expected project utilisation approximately 40%.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for this post which will also include exposure to both internal and external clients.
- What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
- Degree level qualification
- Chartered status.
- Experience of leading Water projects, working with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of WSP’s history and key business lines including an understanding of the competitive environment and regional players along with an understanding of government policy.
