About The Role

The Wesleyan Investments Office manages the University’s endowment in support of Wesleyan’s academic mission and long-term financial strength. Through thoughtful investment and responsible stewardship, the endowment provides an enduring source of funding for financial aid, academic programs, faculty and staff, facilities, and other University priorities. The Investments Office offers a collaborative and intellectually rigorous environment where team members work across a broad range of investment strategies while contributing to the long-term success of the University.

Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer, the Investment Analyst has the opportunity to work on a generalist team and engage in practical hands-on work at the Investments Office while gaining exposure to a wide array of asset classes including hedge funds, venture capital, leveraged buyout, public equity and real estate, while interacting with some of the world’s best investors.

The Investment Analyst plays a supporting role as a member of the investment team, helping to manage the endowment’s assets, track its performance and hone the systems and processes that serve as a foundation for its future growth. The Investment Analyst will also participate in writing investment memos and present to the Investment Committee. The Investment Analyst is an active participant in the sourcing and vetting of new managers, in addition to the ongoing monitoring of current partnerships.

The Investment Analyst will receive extensive training to build a foundation for a successful investment career. The Investment Analyst will have the opportunity to learn financial theory and analytical techniques through the highly regarded Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program. Further training in accounting, Excel, Bloomberg, Morningstar and other systems will also be sponsored by the Investments Office.

The Investment Analyst will also have exposure to the endowment’s position within the greater Wesleyan ecosystem and will learn how the endowment’s spending supports the University’s budget, financial aid and other capital allocation decisions.

Responsibilities Include

Monitoring and analyzing investment objectives, capital allocation decisions, investment performance and investment policies.
Assisting in the screening, selection, and monitoring of money managers through background research, manager meetings, and portfolio analyses.
Manager interaction including travel across the United States and the world.
Quantitatively and qualitatively monitoring the investments of existing portfolio managers.
Tracking and monitoring portfolio risks.
Conducting research and analysis and preparing information on a variety of investment topics.
Articulating investment theses and research through presentations.
Preparing materials for the investment committee and board of trustees.
Serving as a representative of the University throughout the investment community.
Maintaining internal databases and research management systems on a daily, monthly and/or quarterly basis.
Actively participating in manager meetings with responsibility for notes, memos and other follow-up analysis.
Portfolio analysis – performance analytics including return attribution and exposure analysis.
Other duties as assigned.

This position is required to work on campus.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree with expected completion prior to the position start date in summer 2027.
Record of outstanding academic achievement.
Desire to be part of a collaborative, problem-solving investment team.
Demonstrated passion for critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving within a team environment.
Strong quantitative skills.
Acute attention to detail.
Interest in portfolio theory and investing.
Strong interpersonal and effective communication skills.
Excellent writing skills.

Mission-driven: ability to demonstrate desire to support causes greater than oneself.
Willingness to pursue the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation while working for the Investments Office (sponsored by Wesleyan).
Adherence to a strict code of ethics and conflict of interest policy.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
Must be willing and able to travel using various modes of transportation.
Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and work collegially with individuals of different backgrounds.
Must be at least 20 years of age and possess a valid U.S. driver’s license for a minimum of three years with a satisfactory driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

Computer savvy with knowledge of Excel.
Basic understanding of investment theory and practice.
