Job purpose

The Tech Lead provides technical leadership and direction for our engineering team, guiding project delivery while mentoring and growing team members. This role is expected to bring strong working knowledge of AI tools and technologies, actively use AI-assisted development tools to improve team output and code quality, and model a habit of continuous, self-directed learning to keep the team’s AI knowledge and practices current as the technology evolves.

Duties and responsibilities

Main Responsibilities

  • Determining project requirements and developing work schedules for the team
  • Delegating tasks and achieving daily, weekly and monthly goals
  • Liaising with team members, management and clients to ensure projects are completed to standard
  • Identifying risks and forming contingency plans as soon as possible.
  • Analyzing existing operations and scheduling training sessions and meetings to discuss improvements
  • Keeping up-to-date with industry trends and developments, with particular attention to emerging AI tools and capabilities
  • Updating work schedules and performing troubleshooting as required
  • Motivating staff and creating a space where they can ask questions and voice their concerns
  • Being transparent with the team about challenges, failures, and successes
  • Writing progress reports and delivering presentations to the relevant stakeholders
  • Championing the adoption of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT) across the team to increase engineering velocity, code quality, and efficiency
  • Modeling and encouraging continuous, self-directed learning around AI and emerging technologies, and sharing relevant tools, techniques, and best practices with the team

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Relevant management certification may be required
  • Experience in a similar role would be advantageous
  • Excellent technical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong leadership and organizational abilities
  • Willingness to build professional relationships with staff and clients
  • Excellent communication, motivational, and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT) and experience applying them responsibly within a software development workflow
  • A demonstrated growth mindset and commitment to self-directed learning, with a particular interest in staying current on emerging AI technologies and capabilities
