General Notes
- The Department of Neuroscience in the College of Natural Sciences is looking for a reliable Student Assistant to provide daily administrative support.
- The selected candidate will receive training . A work-study award for academic year 2026-27 is required.
- We are looking for someone who can commit between 15 and 19 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with specific days: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons.
- Hours: between 9am and 5pm
Purpose
To assist Neuroscience departmental staff with daily administrative support as outlined below.
Responsibilities
Administrative support
- Assist with coordination of daily laboratory package deliveries, including receiving packages from various carriers, following appropriate check-in procedures, and communicating with purchasing staff to ensure accurate records are maintained
- Sort and distribute incoming mail to departmental mailboxes; notify recipients of urgent mail and re-route incorrectly addressed mail
- Assist with management of departmental social media accounts, including creating and posting content for Instagram and Facebook, as assigned
Event Coordination
- Assist departmental staff with set-up and preparation for seminars, faculty lunches, and other events, as required
- Receive food deliveries and ensure they are delivered to the appropriate location; assist with set-up as needed, prepare coffee for Neuroscience Seminars, and assist with cleanup as needed
Processing
- Assist with processing of payment vouchers, as needed: training in UT Define and Smartsheet will be provided to help ensure payments are processed accurately and in a timely manner
Required Qualifications
- Work-Study award for the 26-27 academic year is required
- Enrollment at UT-Austin as undergraduate student for at least 6 hours per long semester (excluding summer)
- Ability to work independently and problem-solve independently
- Project a professional demeanor
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Smartsheet is a plus
Hourly Rate
$15.00
