About The Role

As a Technical Engineer – Dredging Systems, you play a key role in maintaining and improving the dredging equipment that powers DEME's world-class fleet of dredging vessels.

Based at our headquarters in Belgium, you support the maintenance, repair, and reliability of critical dredging systems installed on our vessels. From wear-intensive piping systems and trailing pipes to large mechanical components and steel structures, you ensure that our dredging equipment remains operational and ready to perform in demanding environments.

This is not a sailing or crew position. You will be primarily based at our Belgian headquarters, working closely with fellow engineers, vessel crews, and technical specialists. Occasional visits to dredging vessels, shipyards, and workshops are part of the role to assess equipment, prepare maintenance activities, or support larger repair campaigns.

Working across the world's largest and most advanced fleet of dredging vessels, you will gain exposure to state-of-the-art dredging equipment and contribute directly to keeping our fleet operational and efficient. Y our responsibilities

  • Prepare and support maintenance and repair activities for dredging equipment installed on our dredging vessels .
  • Develop technical work preparations, repair methodologies, resource plans, and safety documentation for maintenance campaigns.
  • Define and describe repair scopes for dredging systems, including piping, steel structures, wear components, and large mechanical equipment.
  • Analyze equipment failures and recurring maintenance issues and contribute to continuous improvements.
  • Prepare detailed execution-ready documentation for maintenance and repair activities on dredging vessels .
  • Conduct technical assessments on board vessels and during shipyard periods when required.
  • Collaborate closely with vessel crews, workshop teams, reliability engineers, and fellow technical engineers.
  • Contribute to the long-term reliability and performance of DEME's dredging equipment.
  • Stay informed about technical developments and innovations in dredging technology and heavy mechanical equipment.

Your profile

  • Master's degree in Electromechanical Engineering , Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Approximately 5 years of experience in a technical engineering, maintenance, shipbuilding, heavy industry, or similar environment.
  • Strong mechanical affinity and interest in large technical installations and heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of steel structures, wear mechanisms, welding techniques, and mechanical repair methods.
  • Experience in maintenance engineering, workshop environments, shipyards, heavy construction equipment, or industrial installations is an asset.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and translate technical findings into practical maintenance solutions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a hands-on mindset.
  • Comfortable working independently and developing technical solutions based on manuals, drawings, and field observations.
  • A team player who enjoys collaborating with operational and technical stakeholders.
  • Willing to travel occasionally to vessels , shipyards, and workshops. The position is predominantly HQ-based in Belgium .
