About The Role

The expected base rate for this Glens Falls, New York, United States-based position is $18.00 to $23.59 per hour. (Exact rate is determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience level, as well as education and certifications pertaining to each position which may be above the listed job requirements.)

The Scheduling Secretary is responsible and accountable to assist in the overall functioning of the Operating Room in response to provider/customer needs encompassing communicative, receptionist, computer and administrative support services. These functions include, but are not limited to, assisting with medical records, contact with Patient Flow to report admissions and deaths, supply and equipment inventory, and

unit records. Responsible for surgical schedule and places add-on / inpatient cases on the schedule as appropriate.

Operating Room Scheduling Duties

  • Schedules and coordinates all surgical procedures in accordance with established surgical suite policies while ensuring optimum utilization of time and available space.
  • Makes changes to the schedule as necessary, communicating to appropriate staff.
  • Resolves problems / conflict related to schedule when appropriate and refers unusual problems /situations to leadership as necessary.
  • Keeps leadership and/or Coordinator apprised of potential, immediate, or future problems related to scheduling system.
  • Monitors daily Operating Room schedule.

Communication

  • Establishes and maintains effective interpersonal skills within the care delivery team.
  • Answers phone in a polite, friendly, respectful manner and relay message to appropriate resource in a timely, helpful manner.
  • Uses appropriate communication and negotiation skills in interactions with others.
  • Addresses conflicts as soon as possible with involved parties; if unable to resolve, uses appropriate channels for assistance.

General Support for Team Outcomes

  • Provides general support for team responsibilities encompassing maintenance of a safe environment, problem identification, conflict resolution, cooperation, commitment and appropriate utilization of resources.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and dependability by adhering to assigned work schedule.

Administrative Support

  • Utilizes computer information system according to established standard for position and unit.
  • Communicates with Patient Flow staff regarding admissions / deaths and transfers.
  • Maintains and keeps current files, bulletin board and communication board.

Supplies, Specimens & Escort

  • Orders supplies and equipment for service.
  • Arranges for repair and replacement of facilities and equipment as needed and maintains related records.

What You Bring (Qualifications)

Education & Experience: High School diploma or equivalent required. Medical terminology preferred.
