About The Role

Applications are invited from Officers in the rank of Constable for the role of full time National Firearms Instructors (NFI’s) based at Dounreay. This roles involve the delivery of firearms training in dynamic working environments in world class training facilities. This involves providing tactical training, command training, medic training, development shoots, conducting qualification shoots and any other firearms training as directed by the Chief Firearms Instructor.

All Applicants must meet the following criteria

  • Be a current and competent firearms instructor to a consistently high standard (Defined as: not failed a qualifying shoot in the past two years with either the SLP or G36c weapon whilst maintaining an average pass score of greater than 80% and not subject of a current AFO developmental plan.
  • No failures of a Tactical summative assessment in the last 2 years of firearms training.
  • Not have been on any stage of the Unsatisfactory Performance Procedure (UPP) within the last 12 months.

The role requires some occasional travel and overnight stays away from home and a requirement to work some weekends.

Applicants must have a full manual driving licence and have satisfactorily passed their probation period with their current or previous force.

Transferees who join the CNC will, in the majority of cases, have the salary and annual leave entitlements they had at their last force honoured – meaning you can start with us on exactly the same pay and entitlements.

Our standard entitlements for officers include 200 hours annual leave per year, plus bank holidays - increasing to 208 hours after 6 years service, 216 hours after 7 years service, 224 hours after 8 years service, 232 hours after 9 years service and up to 240 hours after ten years service.
