About The Role

Title: Inclusion Aide (H)

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Provides one on one assistance to children and adults with disabilities who are enrolled in various activities/programs at the Chicago Park District parks. The Inclusion Program is designed to accept children and adults of all abilities for recreation and leisure activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists one or more children or adults in sports, games, and various recreational and athletic activities, based on the severity of their disability and/or level of need.
  • Evaluates the skill levels of children and adults and assesses their ability to safely and effectively participate in park activities.
  • Enforces and promotes safety guidelines during all recreational and athletic activities.
  • Provides assistance to children and adults during lunch and with necessary restroom functions, as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Training and Experience: Enrollment in a college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Special Education or related field is preferred; or three years of experience working hands on/directly with children and/or adults with disabilities is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of competitive sports programs for people with disabilities. Effective oral communication skills. Ability to enforce safety rules. Ability to lead physical, recreational and leisure activities. Basic swimming skills.

BENEFITS: As a part-time Chicago Park District employee in a position covered by the District’s Agreement with SEIU Local 73, eligible employees receive a comprehensive benefits package including:

  • +$1.00/hour increase on 1/1/2026.
  • +$1.00/hour increase on 1/1/2027.
  • 1 day of personal leave at the commencement of each quarter, accrued on a pro rata basis.
  • 2 days of sick leave at the commencement of each quarter, accrued on a pro rata basis.
  • After one year of employment, employees who work 1,040 hours or more in the previous year are typically eligible for between 7-10 workdays of paid vacation time annually, and additional time after first 5 years of employment.
  • 12 weeks of paid parental leave (upon meeting FMLA eligibility requirements).
  • Pension plan through the Park Employees' and Retirement Board Employees' Annuity and Benefit Fund, a system covered by the State of Illinois' Reciprocal Act.
  • Free Admission to most Chicago Museums.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

General work area is indoors/outside, in a smoke-free environment, with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting. Performs tasks that involve use of hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching, walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching and sitting. May perform lifting tasks up to 25 pounds.
