Main responsibilities

Position Summary

The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Grocery Department. This position assists with inventory management, merchandising, sales growth, customer service, food safety, labor management, and team development. The Assistant Grocery Manager helps ensure the department is well stocked, organized, clean, and aligned with company standards while delivering an exceptional shopping experience for customers.

Key Responsibilities Department Operations

  • Assist in managing all daily Grocery Department operations.
  • Support department sales, profitability, and productivity goals.
  • Ensure shelves, displays, and promotional areas are properly stocked and merchandised.
  • Monitor inventory levels to maintain in-stock conditions and minimize shrink.
  • Execute company merchandising programs, seasonal displays, and promotional activities.
  • Maintain backroom organization and proper stock rotation procedures.

Customer Service

  • Deliver exceptional customer service and promote a customer-first culture.
  • Resolve customer concerns and respond to inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
  • Assist customers in locating products and making purchasing decisions.
  • Ensure team members provide courteous, friendly, and helpful service.

Inventory Management

  • Assist with ordering and inventory control processes.
  • Monitor product movement and identify sales opportunities.
  • Review stock levels and take corrective action to prevent out-of-stocks and overstock conditions.
  • Support receiving procedures and verify product quality and quantity.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Assist with training, coaching, and developing department associates.
  • Promote employee engagement and accountability.
  • Support scheduling and labor management efforts to meet operational needs.
  • Delegate tasks effectively and follow up on completion.
  • Lead the department in the Grocery Manager's absence.

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with departmental audits and inspections.
  • Ensure accurate product pricing, signage, and labeling.
