The Audio Technology Licensing organization focuses on developing scalable, portable, and high-performance audio technologies that can be deployed across a wide range of partner platforms and products.

We are seeking a hands-on Android Audio Engineer to join our Audio Technology Licensing Engineering Team in China.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with deep expertise in Android audio architecture, embedded software development, and audio system optimization. You will be responsible for developing, integrating, and maintaining Android audio frameworks and services across a variety of customer platforms, including smartphones, automotive systems, and consumer electronics products.

Success in this role requires strong technical depth in Android audio subsystems, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with global engineering teams, platform vendors, and external customers. You will play a key role in enabling scalable, high-quality audio experiences through Bose licensed technologies and partner products.

Android Audio Engineers in the Audio Technology Licensing group work in cross-functional and highly collaborative teams to develop, optimize, and deploy audio software solutions for global customers and partners.

You will contribute to enable Bose audio solution in Android system, and system-level audio performance tuning across a broad range of hardware and software platforms.

This role provides significant opportunities to influence product architecture, solve complex technical challenges, and drive the successful deployment of advanced audio technologies in commercial products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize Bose audio algorithms in Android Audio subsystems for audio capture, playback, mixing, routing, etc.
  • Maintain and extend Android audio service frameworks to support new product features and customer requirements.
  • Evaluate and implement audio feature requirements while ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Work extensively with Android audio components including: AudioFlinger, AudioPolicyManager, AudioService, Audio HAL, Audio Effects Framework.
  • Troubleshoot complex audio issues involving distortion, latency, synchronization, routing, power management, and system stability.
  • Engage with customers throughout product development, integration, and commercialization phases.
  • Translate customer requirements into technical solutions and implementation plans.

Skills & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong subset of the following

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of Android audio framework and complete architecture experience.
  • Experience working with Google.
  • Proven experience with Android audio components including:
  • AudioService
  • AudioFlinger
  • AudioPolicyManager
  • Audio HAL
  • Audio Effects Framework
  • Deep understanding of Android audio routing, volume management, device management, and audio stream policies.
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ with solid software design and debugging skills.
  • Experience developing and debugging Linux-based embedded software systems.
  • Familiarity with ALSA audio drivers and Linux audio subsystem architecture.
  • Experience integrating audio hardware including microphones, speakers, codecs, amplifiers, and audio interfaces.
  • Strong knowledge of audio processing fundamentals, including:
  • Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
  • Audio codecs
  • Audio capture and playback
  • Mixing and audio pipeline design
  • Ability to perform root-cause analysis and resolve complex system-level issues.

Desirable (Not Required)

  • Experience with audio algorithm integration and optimization.
  • Experience porting algorithms to Qualcomm ADSP, Hexagon DSP, MediaTek DSP, or similar embedded DSP platforms.
  • Knowledge of speech processing, noise reduction, voice enhancement, and audio effects technologies.
  • Experience developing audio solutions for automotive systems.
  • Experience with consumer electronics audio products such as smartphones, wearables, smart speakers, or headphones.
  • Familiarity with Bluetooth audio technologies and related system constraints.
  • Experience working directly with customers, technology partners, or platform vendors.

Education & Experience

  • 6+ years of industry experience in Android audio framework development, embedded audio software development, or related audio system engineering roles.
  • Experience with Qualcomm and/or MediaTek mobile platforms is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering commercial audio products from development through production deployment.
