We support both public sector and private sector clients and this role will face into both major commissions and new national infrastructure projects.
Our vision is to be the provider of choice for enabling national critical infrastructure and we are looking to grow into new roads markets including defence, aviation, ports, design & build, healthcare, education, energy, digital and more.
A little more about your role…
The candidate will be involved in the project management and technical delivery of highway schemes from inception through to handover of the completed scheme to the client. This role will be a hybrid of client facing, billable work and the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of delivery of schemes in either the local or national transport arena.
The candidate will also be responsible for a team of between 5-20 people, locally within our London (Westferry Circus), Basingstoke or Cambridge offices, in addition to part of our integrated Roads team based in India (Bengaluru, Noida and Mumbai).
They will be responsible for the growth and operational performance of the team, as part of the wider cost centre to meet regional budget targets and deliver projects.
In this role your responsibilities will include
- Being a champion of our health, safety, and well-being culture by leading by example.
- Drive operational excellence to achieve budget targets on utilisation.
- Develop pipeline and ensure sufficient workload for your team.
- Plan the growth of the team and recruit to fill key roles and meet head count targets.
- Line manage and develop members of the team to achieve their goals and aspirations.
- Lead on business development activities to bring in new, sustainable opportunities for WSP across a variety of sectors including defence, ports, aviation, digital, design & build, energy, healthcare, education and more.
- Supporting and working with the Regional Director, London & South East to deliver their goals for the cost centre.
- Leading on projects to ensure technical quality and timely delivery.
- Provide visible leadership to your team to boost morale, wellbeing and workplace satisfaction.
- Managing projects to ensure coordination of multi-disciplinary inputs.
- Managing resources effectively and efficiently to meet fluctuating work loads.
- Working with Clients and design teams to deliver compliant designs on time and within budget meeting CDM, QA and technical review requirements.
- Participating in tender bids and business development opportunities as they arise.
- Developing relationships with other WSP teams to utilise additional resources required.
- Agreeing fees and managing the commercial position on projects.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
- Experience of managing a Professional Services team in a consultancy business.
- Experience of operating at management level in delivering services into the public and private sector.

- Organisational skills to coordinate the delivery activities of a professional team.
- Clear understanding of the importance of robust business processes and systems and a strong commitment to quality.

- Strong commercial acumen.
- Technical expertise to manage and lead multi-disciplinary projects.
- Good client handling and interpersonal skills are essential.
