Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

The Psychology Centre, part of Te Kura Whatu Oho Mauri, School of Psychological and Social Sciences, is seeking an experienced clinical psychologist and leader to take on the role of Director.

Reporting to the Head of School, the Director is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of The Psychology Centre, ensuring the delivery of high-quality psychological services, clinical training, and research-informed practice. The role provides leadership across staff management, financial oversight, service development, clinical governance, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning.

The Director works closely with the University of Waikato Clinical Psychology Programme and a range of external stakeholders, including Te Whatu Ora, ACC, community organisations, and other referral agencies. The role also provides leadership in the development of new initiatives, partnerships, and programmes that enhance the Centre's impact, sustainability, and contribution to clinical psychology training and service delivery.

Salary will be in the range of $143,500 to $156,500 per year based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. This is a full-time position based on our Hillcrest Campus.

Ko wai koe? – Who are you?

You will be a registered Clinical Psychologist with substantial experience in professional practice and a demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership in a clinical, education, research, or health services environment.

Additionally, you will have

Registration, or eligibility for registration, with the New Zealand Psychologists Board
Demonstrated leadership and people management experience
Experience developing and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships and partnerships
Strong strategic, organisational, financial, and administrative skills
Experience supporting clinical supervision, professional training, or workforce development
A track record of developing new initiatives, programmes, or services
Excellent communication and relationship management skills
A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive practice.

The Psychology Centre is part of Te Kura Whatu Oho Mauri, School of Psychological and Social Sciences, and is focused on promoting education and pre-service training in clinical psychology. The Centre provides psychological assessment and treatment services to the community and works to develop innovative, evidence-based programmes that support the wellbeing of children, young people, whānau, and adults.

Working closely with the University of Waikato Clinical Psychology Programme and community partners, the Centre contributes to clinical training, service delivery, and research that supports positive outcomes for individuals and communities.
