About The Role

Specific Responsibilities for this Role

  • Prescribes or administers medication, therapy, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.
  • Interacts with patient to gather additional history and information about medical condition
  • Explains procedures and discusses test results or prescribed treatments with patient
  • Provides specific treatments and/or performs operations to treat patient medical conditions
  • Performs surgical procedures and operations as appropriate.
  • Responsible to carry out necessary duties to ensure the best and most cost-effective treatment of patients.
  • To provide a full range of surgical diagnosis, treatment and care to inpatients, day cases and outpatients who require general surgery. It is expected that the post-holder will hold further special interests in either upper- or lower general surgical practice.
  • To undertake pre and post-operative assessment of patients.
  • To contribute to the development of Clinical Quality Standards.
  • To undertake all necessary administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients, including but not limited to clinical coding, discharge summaries, letters and reports.
  • To be responsible to the Medical Director for the quality of care delivered and the effective and efficient use of the resources under his/her control.
  • To contribute to the planning and development of surgical services.
  • Responsible for applying medical knowledge and skills to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of illnesses for patients.
  • Promote patient care by liaison with all departments.
  • Participate in local and national specialty clinical meetings
  • Participate in the in-service education programme and comply with mandatory training requirements, inclusive of CPR, Health & Safety Training and Fire Safety.
  • To ensure ongoing medical competence by participating in the annual relicensing and recertification schemes in United Arab Emirates.
  • To maintain and develop professional expertise through self-directed learning and continuous professional development.
  • To participate in the annual appraisal system with the Medical Director, which will feedback from the Hospital Administrator and other colleagues/patients.

Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems

  • Comply with reasonable OSH instructions, policies and safe working procedures
  • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
  • Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures
  • Not willfully or recklessly endanger anyone’s health and safety
  • Assist with the preparation of risk assessments
  • Report OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues
  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycling of waste as much as possible
  • Attend all OSH Trainings, awareness programs and mock drills.
  • Participates in the OSHMS audits, inspections, ensuring standards are maintained

Prevention and Control of Infection (PCI)

  • PCI is everyone’s responsibility. All staff are required to read and implement the NMC PCI Policy and Strategy in an effort to maintain the highest possible standards of cleanliness at all times, thus reducing the risk of infection in patients, staff and visitors.
  • The strictest hand hygiene, 5 moments of hand hygiene, bare below the elbows and environmental care, will be expected of all staff, including the post holder, at all times

  • At least 3 - 5 years’ post qualification experience at Specialist level (independent of country)
  • At least 1 year Specialist level experience from a Tier 1 country as specified by the UAE healthcare regulator.
  • Basic medical degree and completion of a specialty qualification/education programme (fellowship/diploma) recognised by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
  • Certification and registration in a speciality recognised by relevant UAE healthcare authority. Active and valid life support certification (e.g. BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, NRP)
  • Eligibility for relevant healthcare authority registration e.g. Membership from Royal College / Arab Board Certification / MS / DM / MPhil or an equivalent recognised by relevant healthcare authority in UAE
