Designation: Senior Engineer I – Package Electrical Engineer - Global Service Centre

Base Location: Chennai

Reporting to: GSC EPC Manager.

Job Objectives (Summary of overall job purpose)

To independently manage, coordinate and deliver Electrical package/equipment for the assigned project, effectively and efficiently according to the specified technical requirements, timelines and budget, and independently resolve all issues.

Key Responsibilities

Policies, Processes & Procedures

Implement approved departmental policies, processes, procedures and provide instructions to subordinates and monitor their adherence so that work is carried out in a controlled manner.

Ensure employees are aware and follow the information Security Rules and data security measures in order to protect the company information / intellectual properties

Day- to-day operations

-

  • Assume sole responsibility for assigned electrical package / equipment related to Electrical Auxiliary Systems of HVDC and HVAC platforms.
  • Carry out electrical discipline work within a project team, supporting the project team for field development of renewable energies projects.
  • Prepare / review electrical deliverables for all project phases of renewable industries.
  • Liaise with HVDC / HVAC Technology partners.
  • Coordinate and manage Engineering Subcontractors and Electrical equipment manufacturers.
  • Liaise with the Client’s Engineering, Operations and Maintenance staff as required to ensure a consistent approach to project completion.
  • Be fully familiar with the project scope of work, specifications, schedule and all inter-discipline requirements including identifying concerns as early as practicable and taking appropriate initiatives to address the issues.
  • Identify changes to scope and promptly raise change notifications, including providing necessary supporting documentation and estimates. Provide similar support for variation orders.
  • Interface with all disciplines to develop clash free designs.
  • Interface with other departments to obtain input for discipline design and drawings.
  • Maintain close co-ordination with other engineering disciplines, planning, fabrication and project management team as required.
  • Assist in preparation of estimates for execution statements and manhour estimates.
  • Raise Technical queries to obtain missing information, clarify work scope and to maintain preferred procedures, specifications, standards, practices and operational requirements.
  • Attend project review meetings, vendor meetings, engineering meetings and site surveys as required.
  • Provide technical direction to Engineering subcontractors and Electrical equipment manufacturers/vendors related to Auxiliary Electrical Systems of HVDC & HVAC platforms.
  • Assist procurement personnel in procuring Discipline equipment, materials and services ensuring that work produced complies with customer objectives and procedures. Procurement assistance includes preparing and reviewing requisitions, evaluating technical quotations and preparing queries, compiling bid tabulations and recommendations, preparing purchase requisitions and coordinating with procurement to expedite vendor documents as directed by discipline lead engineer.
  • Review vendor and subcontractor submittals, checking for compliance with project specifications and providing comments as necessary.
  • Provide technical support to all fabrication queries, including identifying defect / rectification requirements.
  • Keep the Lead Engineer appraised of all activities and concerns, technical, budgetary and manpower related.
  • Assist in providing inputs for actual, planning and forecasting progress reports including associated productivity.
  • Check final subcontractor and vendor data manuals to ensure that all requested data has been received and approved.
  • Participate in internal, customer and third party technical audits on engineering deliverables and vendor documents.
  • Assist lead engineer with responses to customer and other agencies (such as certifying authorities, auditors, third parties, etc.) on their review and approval.
  • Prepare / review Electrical system definition, including philosophy, specifications, safety drawings and system architecture.
  • Prepare / Update / Review specifications and data sheets for Electrical Equipment.
  • Review Electrical equipment testing procedures
  • Attend Electrical equipment FAT’s as required

Operations Management

  • Estimate man-hours and materials for delegated aspects of work.

  • Prepare and reviewing Technical RFQs, vendor offer reviews, TBE, vendor data review for Electrical equipment.

Direction of subordinates

Plan, organize and supervise the activities assigned to Electrical discipline subordinates to ensure that all work within a specific area / project / tender of electrical engineering activity is carried out in accordance with department and project work instructions, procedures, process manual and project specific requirements, an efficient and procedurally compliant manner.

Continuous Improvement

Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices taking into account ‘international best practice’, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement. Dedicate in knowledge transfer session within and outside discipline.

Reporting

-

Prepare departmental reports on time and accurately to meet company and department requirements, policies and standards. Prepare weekly reports on discipline update to DDW internal and reporting as per project demand. Prepare progress report and track records of project engineering deliverables

Related Assignments

Perform other related duties or assignments as directed on order to contribute to the continuous operations of the department. Support EPC engineering department and Electrical Discipline initiatives.

MinIMUM Qualifications

Desirable

Education

  • Bachelor/Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Master’s Degree in relevant field will be added advantage.

Training

  • Proficient with software such as ETAP, AGi32 etc. ERP, EDMS, MS Office
  • Membership of a recognized professional institute will be added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience in in design office or EPC for offshore HVDC and HVAC platforms Auxiliary Electrical Systems.
  • Minimum of 6 years proven capability in an engineering design company
  • Experience in offshore HVAC/ HVDC and Process platforms for major projects.
  • Experience with performing Electrical as per IEC/IEEE standards, a very good knowledge and understanding of DNV_GL, BV and other classification rules and requirements.
  • Experience in offshore HVDC & HVAC Auxiliary systems
  • Experience working with multi-national and multi-cultural project teams is strongly preferred
