About The Role

Job Summary

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting the installation, assembly, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment, automated machinery, robotic systems, and industrial automation. The role focuses on maximizing equipment availability, reliability, and productivity by performing preventive, predictive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance while ensuring compliance with Cummins' Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE), and quality standards. The technician will also support machine validation, precision measurement, pneumatic systems, robotics, and continuous improvement initiatives to drive operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, predictive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on manufacturing equipment to maximize machine uptime and reliability.
  • Assemble, install, align, level, and commission manufacturing equipment, machinery, and automation systems.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues involving bearings, gearboxes, shafts, ball screws, linear guides, drive systems, and other machine components.
  • Interpret mechanical drawings, assembly drawings, pneumatic schematics, machine layouts, and technical documentation.
  • Read, assemble, install, troubleshoot, and optimize pneumatic systems including cylinders, valves, FRLs, regulators, sensors, tubing, and air preparation systems.
  • Support installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, teaching, and recovery of industrial robots and collaborative robots (Cobots).
  • Assist in End-of-Arm Tooling (EOAT) installation, setup, and optimization for robotic applications.
  • Perform precision measurement activities including runout, flatness, parallelism, concentricity, alignment, repeatability, and machine accuracy verification using precision measuring instruments.
  • Analyze machine performance and measurement data to identify improvement opportunities and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support machine upgrades, modifications, retrofits, and automation improvement projects.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for recurring equipment failures and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment history, inspection reports, and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities to minimize production downtime and support manufacturing requirements.
  • Participate in TPM, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, engineering, quality, automation, and maintenance teams to improve machine performance and process capability.
  • Follow all Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE), quality, and regulatory requirements while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, Certificate of Secondary Education, ITI, Diploma, or equivalent technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, or a related discipline.
  • Additional technical certifications in mechanical maintenance, robotics, pneumatics, or automation are an advantage.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export control or sanctions regulations.

Skills & Experience

Required Skills

  • Experience in mechanical maintenance within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Machine assembly and installation
  • Preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance
  • Bearings, gearboxes, shafts, ball screws, and linear motion systems
  • Machine alignment and leveling
  • Ability to read and interpret:
  • Mechanical drawings
  • Assembly drawings
  • Pneumatic circuit diagrams
  • Machine layouts
  • Experience with pneumatic systems including cylinders, valves, FRLs, regulators, sensors, and air preparation systems.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial robots and collaborative robots (Cobots), including basic robot teaching and calibration.
  • Knowledge of precision measurement techniques including:
  • Runout measurement
  • Flatness and parallelism inspection
  • Alignment verification
  • Machine accuracy studies
  • Repeatability analysis
  • Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments such as dial indicators and related inspection tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Experience maintaining maintenance records and documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Basic understanding of PLC systems and industrial automation.
  • Experience supporting robotic work cells and automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Exposure to EOAT integration and optimization.
  • Knowledge of TPM, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and 5S methodologies.
  • Experience with machine validation, capability studies, and performance verification.
  • Familiarity with predictive maintenance practices and reliability improvement techniques.

Experience

  • Intermediate-level experience in mechanical maintenance, machine assembly, industrial automation, or manufacturing equipment support.
  • Hands-on experience with manufacturing machinery, pneumatic systems, robotics, and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Experience supporting machine commissioning, troubleshooting, precision measurements, and equipment reliability improvement in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
