About The Role

At SEL, we create digital products and solutions that protect, control, and automate power systems around the world. The devices we make at SEL are embedded in the power grid. They prevent blackouts. They make outages safer and shorter in duration; they add cybersecurity, automation, and communication. They use cutting-edge technologies and operate at speeds that push other pieces of the grid to go faster. As a Lead Software Engineer in the Automation Department of R&D, you’ll work on innovative software systems for critical infrastructure that support everyday life, from critical, life-saving operations to everyday tasks, like flipping a light switch.

As a Lead Software Engineer, a typical day might include the following

  • Work with Application and User Experience engineers to understand user scenarios and customer use cases.
  • Develop using the full software stack: from microservices implemented in go, to beautiful, responsive web frontends implemented with React and JavaScript.
  • Design and deploy containerized applications that run in a Kubernetes cluster.
  • Implement operating system services running on SEL’s ruggedized computers or in virtualized environments.
  • Employ threat modeling, static analysis, vulnerability scanning, fuzz testing and other methods to ensure the products being developed meet the highest standards for quality and security.
  • Build and maintain CI pipelines to build and test new product features.

This job might be for you if

  • You have 7+ years of experience and are interested in full stack development using Kubernetes, docker, go, and React.
  • You want to take ownership of the software development and testing process from conception to product release and maintenance.
  • You enjoy developing software with small, collaborative teams working together in an office.
  • You are passionate about creating reliable, secure software solutions of the highest quality for automation, monitoring, and control of critical infrastructure.
